About Shepherd
Shepherd is church management software that is free for every congregation. It keeps member records, attendance, giving, sermons, events, groups and volunteers in one place, so a small church can run its week without paying for several separate tools.
Who builds it
Paul Hitt started Shepherd in 2025 in Springfield, Virginia. Extant 2000 LLC, a small software company, builds and runs it. Shepherd is made of more than 30 church plugins written for WordPress.
Why it is free
Shepherd has no subscription and no per-member price. Donations from churches and individuals pay for development and hosting, and that is the only income. If Shepherd helps your church, you can support Shepherd.
How giving works
Each church receives gifts through its own Stripe account, and the money goes to the church’s bank account. Shepherd takes no share of those gifts. Stripe charges its standard processing fees.
Your church’s data
Your church controls its members’ information. Extant 2000 LLC stores it on servers in the United States, does not use it for its own purposes and does not sell it. Confessions and pastoral replies are encrypted when stored. The privacy policy has the details. Shepherd is offered to churches in the United States.
